why will no one take on a new home policy for Harris County? Geico, State Farm, Farmers, Travelers ..nope.

A State Farm agent actually told me they won't write me a policy unless I already have a home policy...wait what?

So how are you able to close if you can't get insurance?

I think I heard that State Farm isn't writing polices in Texas right now. Try Liberty Mutual.

I insured with Amica when I closed 3 years ago. I was just shopping around and no one will insure me. I keep getting the junk mailers in the mail from local agents with a quote based on my property value but none of them will even write a policy. One of them was from a local State Farm agent with a quote of $907 but they won't even issue a policy. I guess it's a ploy from the corporate office to fleece their local agents with 'local advertising' fees they collect.

I am paying $1850 minus approx $200 dividend check annually so my net is $1650. I thought I could maybe reduce it a few hundred dollars but I guess not.

Liberty is the only one I found that would issue a policy in Harris County. They gave me some outrageous rate of $2700. This is for $250K of coverage and 2% wind/hail.

Yeah, it was crazy expensive. What about trying a broker? Try Memorial Insurance -- they found me something cheaper through another big name (can't remember who), maybe Met Life? I didn't end up going with them since we went with USAA, so I owe them some business.

May I recommend that you not buy anything from the original poster, however, since he hasn't been back to check on the business that he so blatantly solicited on here. Now we know why he's panhandling for work on chat forums.
