Rate Lennar and DrHorton Home Builders
Hello. I am a 1st time buyer and we are going out for preapproval on a new built house in May.
Can you please share exsperience with Lennar and DrHorton? Do they build quality homes? Are they are rip-off?
What are other good home builders in Houston for the Katy area?
Thank you.

Lennar has a much better reputation then D.R. Horton here and I would prefer to build a Lennar if price permitted but I know a couple of people who own DR Horton homes who are happy with them. I guess my answer would be if you can afford a Lennar then I would choose Lennar but if DR Horton has a floorplan you can't live without or is more in your price range, then get a DR Horton. I am so helpful LOL!

I've had bad experience with both, dr horton(Craig Ranch) is just a BAD company( from sales management on down) period, lennar(Cinco Ranch) on the other hand is good, we had a VERY good saleswoman w/ lennar but the const. foreman wasn't worth crap. We had our own personal inspector check out the home we were building in Cinco Ranch and he shot it down on the first two phases, the funny thing is lennar's inspectors passed it LOL. After going back and forth with the idiot foreman, my wife and I decided to pull out and build elsewhere.
If I "HAD" to choose between the two I would go with lennar hands down.

You should always hire your own inspector, even in new home sales. The salesperson works for THE BUILDER. If you don't have an agent you are not represented no matter how nice the salesperson is. If you choose to not use a realtor, at least get an independant inspector.

Thanks for your input. So who did you have build your house? Did you end up building in Cinco Ranch? Who would you recommend as good home builders?
Also, could you recommend a good home inspector? How much did the home inspector charge you?
Thanks in advance.

I'm a D R Horton home onwer, what a bad choice. Its been less then a year the house sub floor on the second level is coming up and they will not honor the warranty. Spend your money wisely. Don't but D R Horton.
