My almost 2 year old is currently receiving speech services in NM and we were told to start looking for early intervention services in the area we will be moving to in TX so that we can transfer his information over.

Does anyone have any recommendations for programs in the Clear Lake/El Lago area? We are planning on moving there in late May/early June.

My child was supposedly "speech delay" and we took him to therapy for almost a year. No help at all if you ask me. He start talking around 4 and now he is 7 and excel in school.

I think speech delay is the AD diagnosis of the month.

I think in general boys tend to develop slower in speech. I am over 40 and my wife claim i have communication issue

With that being said, there are quite a few speech therapy clinics and teachers here so I don't think you should worry about founding them.

The local school district would likely have a list of people even though the child is before school age.

I would say that more than half my friends with toddlers have been referred for speech delay. It does seem like an awful lot.

Early 2yr old seems a bit early to even speak much, even if at all.

Speech delay is often helped by speech therapy (not always, but often).

The *boys talk later* is not very helpful. The differences are generally only a few months, not 2 years. More boys actually have a language delay than girls do. The incidence of language impairment is higher among boys than among girls, a ratio anywhere from 2:1 to 3:1. The Hanen website is very helpful, as is her book More Than Words.

We found early intervention therapists to not be as good as private SLPs.

We used KDC in Pasadena
Houston TX Occupational Therapy Center Texas Certified Occupational Health Therapists

and NTS in Pearland

Call the Clear Creek Independent School District. In Texas there is "Early Childhood Intervention." So you can get speech therapy through a state program.

They will do an evaluation and you can get a speech therapist. They also do occupational therapy and nutrition consulting. This is the state website.

My daughter and the neighbor's daughter both didn't start talking until about 3.5 yrs (month apart birthday). The neighbor was a doctor and wife an elementary school teacher. Both children were learning two languages. Now my daughter is fluent in two languages and learning a third; it is actually her strength. We had her hearing checked and it was fine, but we didn't have speech therapy and I don't think that would have helped in her case anyhow. Maybe he/she is a late verbal bloomer too? At two I seriously wouldn't worry about it. All kids are different...

Thanks for the info, everyone! We weren't too worried but by 18 months he had no words whatsoever and was minimally verbal (no babbling or anything at all). He had really bad ear infections for the first year of his life, so I think he will be a slow bloomer, because his hearing was impacted early on. So - long story short, we just want to give him whatever he needs to catch up!

Thanks again for the info.
