I bank at Wells Fargo, so see here: https://www.wellsfargo.com/foreign-exchange/

Likewise, you should just call your bank, if it's different, and see what they offer.

Only certain bank locations have actual pesos on hand. I got mine from the Wells Fargo at the corner of Gessner and Kingsride opposite Memorial Mall. I'm like you, I like having some cash in hand.

This is true but the convenience is worth it when you are only talking a little spending money in hand for when you arrive.

Default Don't do it...

Do not buy Pesos from a bank in the US, or Mexico!!! Take Dollars, in small denominations; I don't know the purpose of your trip, but if for Spring Break, take small bills. The "black market" exchange rate is much higher than what you will get at any bank, especially in Mexico. It is like paying with Dollars will get you an automatic 20-30% discount, depending on where you go. The locals covet the US dollar bills, and they don't like them torn, taped, or frayed BTW. They like then nice and flat.

From what I've read, this is no longer accurate. Now it is a pain for them to use them and a pain to exchange them, so people working in low-paying jobs get doubly hurt when you tip them with dollars.

I was there last week. Take dollars. The peso right now is very weak. You will lose money in the long run with too many pesos.

Currencies trade in pairs currently a US dollar will buy 17.70 Mexican pesos. You will be hard pressed to find any shop/store that will give you that rate when they accept your dollars. Your usd don't carry more bargaining power either. Most Americans are too lazy to exchange because the dollar is easily accepted and you end up with 13-15 to 1 instead of the market 17.70
