Thanks again, I'll heed everyone's advice!

I looked closer, and the place is closer to MLK and Hwy 90; I realize that's the same area, per se, but are we talking an area that is a bit sketchy? Or a place which is more on the dangerous side? I can still try my darnedest to cancel and book a hotel in midtown, or near Hobby or whatnot. My safety (and my car's safety) is important, so I want to make sure I do things right.

Also, I noticed there is a road closure heading into Houston on 290, I think, but other major roadways appear to still be open, albeit they have reported a few stalls.

Maybe I'll have to take a round about way into Houston, but as long as I make it in safely and leave the following day safely, all is good! :-) Thanks!

That's a little better than the address you said before. It's is close to UH, so depending it could be ok or sketchy. Still no bars there to recommend though and don't go walking around at night.

Whoops, wish I saw this earlier. Hopefully you took 71 down to Columbus, then i10 over into Houston (avoiding 290). That's the route La Grange is on anyways.
I'm interested to hear how the visit went as well. Houston is a massive city, way too much to see/do for just a one night stay. I havent been yet, but the Conservatory bar by Market Square looks pretty sweet.

"so should I get some pesos from my nearest Wells Fargo branch here in Austin, or does Hobby airport have currency rates which are actually not exorbitant?"

If you have a debit card just retrieve money at your nearest ATM at the airport in Mexico (any Mexican bank will do). You may get charged a small fee (1-2%), I know my debit card has no foreign transaction fees which I specifically use for this purpose when I travel. Do NOT exchange currency at a foreign exchange currency shop at the airport, you will get ripped off.

Pay with credit cards there (make sure the card doesn't hit you with an international charge though), or bring US $, they love them. Trading at almost 20-1 recently.
