I'm trying to book a appt. to get a passport for my newborn daughter and the Post Office locations near Cypress are either not picking up the phone or booked till late June. Someone told me that if I go to the main Post Office downtown the wait time is a lot shorter.

Doesn't the Houston Public Library system do them without an appointment on a first come first served basis? This is what I am hoping as I need to renew my sons and since he is under 16 it has to be done in person.

Go to the State Dept web page and see who the providers are in your area. Often, County Clerks at smaller locations will do passports. You don't have to necessarily use the USPS locations.

I did this about 3 years ago when we lived in Denver. Went to a small suburban civic center and walked out with passport renewal applications for 3 of the 4 members of our family, all in under 15 minutes. I was told by the Clerk there that only 4-5 people per day came in for passports; so few, they didn't even take appointments (which is another thing you can try, btw).

Forget the phone call no one ever answer, go to the usps location and make appointment in person.

If you were planning on driving to Destin with your daughter, the post office shouldn't be too far. (I think that was you.) Seriously, though, we had a great experience getting our passport renewed at the Stella Link branch. As long as you show up right when they open, we were out of there in 20 minutes or so, and my son's passport showed up less than a month later (maybe even 2 weeks later? I can't remember, but it was *fast*.)

When did you file? Did you expedite the passport for your son?

I rifled back through my records, and it looks like we applied on Jan. 30, and had his passport in hand by Feb. 22-23 or so. We didn't do the expedited service (we didn't need the renewed passport until April).
