Default interracial, non-married couple. accepting suburbs?

Hi...I'm a black female. My white boyfriend and I are planning to move to the Houston area early this summer. We have been house browsing in the Sugar Land, Spring, and Pearland areas. We're wondering amongst the three (or of other like suburbs) might we feel more accepted and comfortable in one over the others? Less accepted and comfortable in one over the others? Not to perpetuate the stereotype, but I'd rather err on the side of caution, so I can find a home where I'll feel...at home. Thx

I'm white and husband is (asian) indian -- we lived in Houston for 15 mos. and now Katy since August so I don't have direct exerience with living in the areas that you mentioned but I haven't had any problems when visiting Sugar Land. There's an interracial group that you might want to join through yahoo groups and talk to the folks on that group.

Don't think you will have too many problems. I have friends in that area who are an interacial couple (black/white) they have adopted children of both and mixed races. They don't have any problems and while other children are a bit curious about the differences in the siblings at first, it quickly becomes a non-issue and all the kids play happily together.

No one bats an eye anymore. The burbs are full of interracial, married couples. Sugarland would be an easy fit.

Sugar Land should be fine. The impression I get is Pearland is iffy, Spring even moreso. Never lived in those 2 areas, though.

One "like" suburb to the SE -- Clear Lake should also be fine within the city limits of Houston or Webster. I wouldn't go any farther SE than that though. I've lived in 2 neighborhoods here, and interracial couples were/are seen about every 4th house, and it is a non-issue.

I'm talking about professional/white-collar, middle class neighborhoods -- which I'm assuming you were also.

I agree Tstone. Sugarland seems to have the biggest mix of races. At least over 10% each Asian, Black and Hispanic in the schools. Spring has been mostly the "white flight" group. Sorry, its true. Look at the percentages in the schools. Untill recently they have been over 90% white. But the Hispanic population is quickly making up a bigger percentage.

Being in a multicultural family and in an interracial marriage myself, I will choose Sugar Land. There are plenty of interracial couples in that area. I live in Katy and my family goes to Sugar Land quite often. We never had any problems. Actually, for the most part we never had any major problems in any of the surrounding areas outside of Houston at all. Yes, you will get the occassionally "celebrity curiosity stare" as I call it. However, the majority of Houstonians are very warm and welcoming people. There are tons of interracial couples here in Houston that it really doesn't matter to people.
