I wish I could say I was being sarcastic. But unfortunately the amount of dry, brown deciduous vegetation in the Houston/southeast texas region would indicate outherwise.

Why wish to do what you have demonstrated quite well?

My grandfather lived in the Heights as a child, from 1911 until 1921, and died in 2002. He much preferred the more modern Houston, since it was far easier to get around, with better streets, more amenities, and better parks. I prefer modern Hosuton as well. The lack of transit doesn't bother me at all, and I have no desire to live in a highrise building. I will keep my suburban style inner Loop house on a big lot.

This thread - silly enough to begin with - is clearly not going anywhere useful or productive. It's one person's fantasy vs. the real world of the rest of us. I'm looking forward to seeing that beautiful Closed lock, but before that, the next asinine rebuttal of this post. Can't wait to see it! I know it's coming.

I agree, but you had to know that people would not respond well to their city and lifestyles being criticized, and that goes for any place.

I wouldn't necessarily argue that the Old Houston is something to envy, but, no, from an urban standpoint, the New Houston isn't that great either.

And the fantasy can be made into a reality. Where there's a will, there's a way...

Why all the gripe when one lives in such paradise? That's the relevance.

Because the topic is strictly about the city operation and function, in the past vs today.

Old Houston pretty much had everything that current day Houston is said to lack (charm, character, historic architectural fabric, strong pedestrian activity, wide-spread public transit, all the way to Galveston Bay, etc).
