Is it just me, or does it always seem like it's the "thing to do" for Houston TV reporters to be pregnant, like a right of passage in Houston's TV scene? I don't watch local TV much, or TV programming much at all, but when I do, I always see pregnant anchors. I've nothing against it, we have four of our own, 'just that the percentage is awfully high here in Houston.

I think this has more to do with the fact they usually try to bring in attractive younger females constantly. You also do notice there are not that many older female reporters around either.

I think it's exactly this. Look at the local TV media people, whether weather or traffic or news. Mid-20s and 30s, female, attractive. It's inevitable that many of them will get pregnant while on TV. Some (lookin' at you Lauren Freeman!) twice.

As long as they can do the job decently, I really don't care if they're black, white, young, old, male, female, trans, gay, pregnant, ugly, whatever.

A friend of mine and I were talking about this a couple years ago. Some google searching later, and we both came to the conclusion that they seem to marry doctors disproportionately.

TV news anchor, plastic surgeon take the plunge - Houston Chronicle

FOX reporter Angela Chen gets married! - FOX 26 News Houston | KRIV

Too lazy to do any more digging, I just thought I'd contribute some silliness to this thread.

Many have charged that female TV anchors and reporters are basically sidelined once they hit 40, because male viewers don't want to be bothered with female presenters unless they're "young and hot." Though on the anchor side Houston does have some over-40 females behind the desks.

Ha, yes, there is always a place for them on PBS, or NPR.

I assume you're talking about older female newspeople (that term may be generous when talking about anchors). Why shouldn't they be on ABC/CBS/NBC/Fox local news?

She does a really good job. But I would expect that from someone who has been doing reporting that long.

Some of these new hotties they get can barely read the teleprompter. which is all they are paid to do.

i think its funny how a reporter leaves or whatever and a big deal is made about it.
