I got a job, well I actually got two jobs but who cares. I'm glad it only took 3 weeks. Now I need to figure out where to live. The job is located off of Town Center Blvd in Sugar Land. I don't think I can afford actually being in Sugar Land and I would prefer to live on the Houston Metro Bus line cause there is only one car in the household and I will need it to get to work.

For the first week I stayed at a hotel in Southwest Houston off of US 59/Bellaire. I absolutely hated that area, felt like I was the foreigner and thats why I changed motels. I moved to a Motel that says its in the Galleria area but we are at US 290/Bingle Rd area. I like the area but with traffic I think that the commute would be terrible daily.

Could I please get some suggestions for a good commute to this area that is within Beltway 8.

My budget is $900 rent apartment. Don't really want a commute over 45 minutes one way. My hours will be during rush hour.

Thanks

Houston is awesome. Just moved here. Best decision I ever made. Screw the hot weather. You won't be living outside anyway.

From Atlanta? That's neat, I visited once and enjoyed it! I liked the Little Five Points area and I'm glad I visited The Vortex Bar while there. ATL seems like a cool place!

But, I'll be in the same boat next summer (of moving to Houston), so please update us/me on "things you wish you would've known before you moved to Houston", but I figure I can dig deeper in this forum too for that. I hope it works out well for you and chances are high next summer I'll be moseying on down to the Houston area from College Station to find a job as a teacher, so I'll keep an eye out for good districts within Houston and the surrounding area.

Also, if you like dive bars, I recommend visiting Lola's Depot in Houston!

I don't know why anyone would move to this hot, overcrowded city. If I could move I would but I'm too established here. OP, I would not live near 290/Bingle and drive to Sugarland...its just too far in this traffic. You need to consider moving closer to the Galleria area and take 59 south, or look at the Stafford/MissionBend/Missouri City area to be closer to your job. Good luck!

I would prefer to live on the Houston Metro Bus line

Houston Metro Buses don't run to Sugar Land, its a different City, which sadly doesn't want Houston to have access to it.

There are a few Trek buses that run from Med Center, Greenway Plaza and Galleria Areas to Sugar Land.
