I would think that the best option is Moody Gardens and Schlitterbahn Galveston given their proximity adjacent to each other. Stay in the Moody Gardens hotel.

If time permits, there are other things to do in Galveston as well, not necessarily beach related at all. Yesterday, my 8 year old and I went down there and toured Moody Mansion, the Elissa, and had lunch at Pier 21. We had a wonderful time, and my daughter told me next week, she wants to go back to see Bishop's Palace (it's only a 25-30 min drive for us, though).

Thanks everyone for the input!

I think we're going to go to Moody Gardens. It seems like well rounded fun for everyone given their ages; and we can just stay on site allowing us to maybe explore a bit of Galveston in the evening.

I'm thinking we can always go to the water parks and sample them if we move here.

I think that is a good idea.

Btw, for lunch, I like The Spot on the sea wall. It overlooks the ocean. The burgers are good for the kids and I like the blackened Mahi Mahi sandwich. Don't get a margarita there, because they are those wine types that suck.

For dinner, you may consider the Mosquito Cafe.

I wouldn't even consider stopping at the pleasure pier.

Kids love the Rainforest Cafe, but it is a your classic tourist trap. Not very good food for too much money, a gift shop where you wait for your table and subpar service. I've gritted my teeth and have gone a few times for the kids.

I also recommend grabbing some ice cream at one of the places by the sea wall when the sun is going down and taking a walk along the beach. The temperature drops quickly and you normally have a good breeze.

Awesome! Thanks for the tip - The Spot looks like my kinda vacation food! We have the dreaded Rainforest Cafe here, so we'll gladly pass!

Very excited to visit Galveston!
