Moving to Houston
Good Morning Everyone,
My future wife and I are moving to Houston this spring once she finishes law school and can't be more thrilled. I personally can't wait to get out of the hell hole which is the DC Metro area, and can't wait to FINALLY live in Texas. Both sides of my family originate from Texas, but I was born and raised in California, though my grandfather raised me to be a Longhorn fan and to be proud of our Texas heritage. I'm getting off point since I should be asking the questions I meant to, but enough to say that we are not hesitant about moving to Houston. Her parents already live in Woodlands and there's nothing in Houston that can be worse then DC, maybe the humidity but that's about it.
We are looking for an apartment and Lofts at the Ballpark caught my eye and I believe I have sold it enough for her. She lived at Camden Midtown during the summer when she was there for her associatship, but we're looking in other areas as well. I've heard good and bad things about the Lofts, mainly about noise and about it being a bit roudy, but that doesn't bother either of us. I was just curious as to any thoughts about the place, or any other suggestions you may have.
Another question is the job market. She obviously doesn't have an issue, but I'm an IT guy and I know the market isn't as vast as it is here in DC. My experience is in IT, but I'm merely biding time until fall 09 when I enroll at UofH (6 years in the army kept me out of college initially), but how is the job market in general?
Any other suggestions and or comments about moving to Houston are absolutely welcome as well, thanks.

Loft at the Ballpark is a bit noisy right after the games and parking can sometimes be difficult. Are you looking to stay near the Downtown area? As for IT jobs they are widley available in the Medical and Energy sectors here in Houston.

Hello Jack or whatever your real name is...
I agree with what Beto said, it gets really noisy. Sure, it's fun to be able to watch a ball game from your window, but it ain't fun when you try to go to sleep later that night and the game is either still going on or there's a huge after party. Forgive me for being a bit biased, I'm not to familiar with the Downtown area sorry to say, but most of Houston is pretty affordable compared to DC from what I know.
And yes, there's plenty of IT jobs widely available, especially in the Medical Center. The job market here ain't the best, but you might be able to find a good job.
Anything else you need just ask.

I empathize with you in how you feel about DC. I wanted out of DC, too... and I moved here. So far I love it, especially the weather on sunny winter days. I haven't experienced the Houstonian summer yet, however.
You should find plenty of opportunities in IT around here. Try looking at energy companies and at the Medical Center.
