Looking for cultural diversity in Houston
Can you all give me your opinions of areas/suburbs/subdivisions in Houston are culturally diverse that have a good mixture of Koreans, African Americans, Asians, Indians, Caucasians, Hispanics and other races. I have heard goo things about sugarland, humble, aldine, cypress, woodlands, the heights, spring, and noone gives specific reasons (good caring neighbors, clean neigborhood streets, decent jobs, shorter commute time, teachers that care, lower crime rates, no noisy passers thru etc...) I do not want to move to an area that is 70% or more of any one race. Please guide me in the direction of as many neighborhoods that have a good mixture like 20/20/20/20/20 out of 100%. I have a family and we do not want to move somewhere that may not want any specific race there and cause my family to feel uncomfortable with our neighbors and/or classmates. I want a school district that is known for helping their students excel even if the children have NO MOTIVATION at all. I hope this is not to much to ask but all the boards online seem to beat around the bush and noone really speaks their mind. Please be honest I really appreciate it.
Thank you

Houston is very diverse. It's an international city. It is becoming more of a melting pot as more businesses and people move into the area. You shouldn't have any problem living in many locations in the area.
Hope you enjoy your stay!

Ranchstyle, as much as I'd like to help, you shouldn't have any problem finding a neighborhood that fits what you are looking for. Probably won't find the numbers that you're specifically looking for (20 percent of each). No neighborhood is perfect, but again, you won't have any trouble finding it.

Westbury is located just outside the SW corner of loop 610. It is a nice, diverse, family area and the home prices are reasonable. A lot depends on where you will be working. Westbury is a very good spot if you are going to work downtown, Greenway, or the galleria areas. Another area is Oak Forest and Candlelight Forrest on the near NW side just outside loop 610. Suburbs you might consider are Sugarland (SW), Spring (N), Humble (NNE).

Hello Poltracker,
Thank you I appreciate the information. I will look into these areas. Houston is bigger than most of us think until we finally arrive! At least gas prices are not expensive here when driving all over Houston!

Well, just take Poltracker's advice. What I don't want to do is suggest some place that might not be safe for you or some place that's good at the expense of what's better. I think you'll be surprised by the choices and ideas, but choose the safest possible place. Then do your homework and talk around. Trust me, you will love the Houston area. I would personally recommend Katy, but what if it isn't for you? Don't worry about who is represented more; that's not important. Just look for what fits you.

Great post. I'd hasten to add Missouri City and the Westchase area.

Thank you Case44 you and Poltracker! I am doing just that gathering as much from many forums and then driving around and spending a few days in each area to make my final decision. Its hard when you don't know anyone in Houston and can't spend enough time in any given area. But you have been most helpful.
