If everyone agrees there are shooters of all backgrounds and religions -- why was his "presumed" religion or religions associated with his surname even brought up?

Did someone presume he was Muslim? I must have missed that.

As for the actual, factual history of his surname, is there something wrong with factual information?

Knowledge is power.

Once again, the surname Desai is common among Indians who are Muslim. That doesn't mean that all people with that last name are Muslim, of course, which is why I didn't accuse the shooter of being Muslim.
Actually, the surname Desai is not-common among Indians who are Muslims. I am from India and i can tell you majority of people with surname Desai are non Muslims.
There are of course some muslims who might have Desai as their surname but the vast majority are not muslims.

I agree you did not say the shooter is muslims but i want to correct that Desai is not a "common" muslim name in India.
As a matter of fact, i have seen more Indian christians with Desai as their last name

Thanks

In fact, the most famous of all was Cuban-American. Back then nobody ever suggested that Desai Arnaz was Muslim. Sad!

It's funny to watch you try to walk back your attempt at religion/race baiting, but it's in print so that's not really a possibility at this point. Isn't Smith a surname associated with Christianity? Have you done any reports on that?

What's funnier still is that someone with actual knowledge of Hindu religion pointed out that in fact, the information you supplied is demonstrably false and you don't even acknowledge it.

Wasn't it Desi and not Desai, as in Desiderio Arnaz? I think I'm getting old if I remembered that.....
