I have lived in the Woodlands for over 12 years, and I'm only 15. There have been many untrue posts about the Woodlands on this thread, especially about teenagers.
1) The roads here are not crowded. All of the other places I've been to that have about the same population as the Woodlands have the same amount of cars on the road. I've just gotten my permit, and even as a new driver, this isn't a problem.

2) Taxes are high. It's expensive living here. It really is. The good news is, people are still moving here at a rapid rate. There must be something they like.

3) There is actually not as much substance abuse as people think, especially in teenagers. Just like anywhere, there are the kids who generally obey and the kids who lean more towards disobedience. You can't escape that. Yes, there are DWIs, but I think people hear more about them because of two main reasons. 1) There isn't enough crime here to knock DWIs out of the newspaper. (Honestly, you just don't see as many DWI cases in the newspapers in areas around the Woodlands. You see other types of cases like rape and major theft.) 2) The Woodlands is advertised as an almost perfect community. A DWI here is going to be more surprising than a DWI somewhere else. As for drugs, there just isn't as much usage as people are led to believe. Most kids here come from good families with Christian values. Drugs aren't a problem for most of us.

4) Teenagers from other places tend to think that teenagers here are stuck up, which is not true at all. Sure, you'll meet the occasional kid who has let himself become rude and obnoxious. For the most part, however, you'll meet kids who follow the rules, are kind and gracious, and love being with other people. I mean, when some of the most popular kids in the entire school go to the Harry Potter midnight premiere dressed up as Dumbledore and Hermione, you know they're not stuck up and just not afraid to be themselves. That's part of living here. Even if your parents are terrible to you, being around the kids here makes you strive to do better. It raises your confidence tremendously.

5) Saying that the school's here are just average is probably the most ridiculous understatement I've ever heard. The Woodlands High School is one of the first schools colleges look at for potential students. My brother, being in the top 10 percent of his class, has a straight shot at any ivy league college he wants. If you try, there's no way you won't get into a good college. The extracurriculars here are great as well. As some of my friends from surrounding areas say, "The Woodlands wins everything." That's because of the environment Woodlands kids grow up in. It's a community where you have to work hard, and from a young age, that's what you're taught to do.

So yes, the Woodlands is expensive and what-not, but personally, I feel as if I'll never call any other place home.

If you like generic chains that are over-priced with pretentious people the Woodlands aka the Whitelands is for you. Why move to a diverse area with lots cool and fun things and move over an hour away to a boring suburb?

That never stops people from filling the mall every weekend.

I like it out here. I'm a young guy, african american and was raised in a place so different and polar opposite of The Woodlands.

My neighbors are nice. They're quiet and from what I can see, very much family people.

Are there pretentious people here ? Probably so. No more than Champions,or Friendswood, or some of your top-shelf neighborhoods in Sugarland that are home to most current Texans,Rockets,or Astros players during the season-I'm sure none of those guys are pretentious.......... As well other successful people.

I'm far from rich, but bust my a** to live here, because it's quiet in general and for me personally....I have a peace of mind.

Ok...so there's one POV from a Woodlands resident. I can't speak for the others.

hun - colleges are not recruiting Woodlands HS students. that is not how it works. Woodlands HS is not the best school in the area but it's a typical suburban school which means it is a good school. You can get into an Ivy League from anywhere

the traffic from woodlands to the city and vice versa is the worst in the city. that is the congestion people are talking about I believe

How can you have 6.0 in a 4.0 grading system? Isn't that like getting a 125% test grade?

When I was in high school back in the 90s we were on a 6.0 system. 4.0 was the highest you could get taking general classes then then next tier was advanced which got you to a 5.0 then the top was Honors/AP which got you to 6.0. I believe they converted it back to an equivalent 4.0 scale for transcripts.
