It doesn't *feel* humid in Portland. When the sun is out, it is glorious. When the sun isn't out, it can feel really gloomy and claustrophic because the clouds come down low and the tall pine trees block what little light there is.

When I get to Houston (in 22 more days!), I'm going to be like one of those cave creatures that comes blinking out into the bright light.

Ok, Alief is not exactly "the best"...so some other subdivisions I have seen are as follows: Piney Point Village, Bunker Hill Village, Addicks, Barker, Mission Bend, Clodine, Hunters Creek Village, Four Corners.... What can any of you tell me about those areas? Thanks so much!

Villages are about $750,000 and up to get into. HOWEVER, you can get a townhouse in those areas in your price range. Great schools (best district in the metro region) and a very safe neighborhood.

Townhouse Complexes that're good
Hudson Oaks
The Pines
Georgetown

There are a few others, but aren't coming to mind by name.

Yeah, Alief has decent neighborhoods but it also has bad ones, and the school district isn't very good overall.

I'm orginally from Portland (lived there 21 years and I am a proud Beaver alum) I left for several years, then we moved back there from 2005 -2006. Ugh, it was the rainiest year they've had in a while. We came to TX last year and I am not missing Oregon. I don't mean slam my beautiful home state, but I forgot how depressing it was to live there. It was amazing to watch how excited everyone got on the rare beautiful sunny days. TX has been good to us. I know we were eased in nicely since last year wasn't a scorcher. ~K~
