Well we got hit with the sod webworms and treated awhile back. The grass never came back and weeds are taking over.

The good news is it is only our back yard. The bad news is our backyard is fairly large and the garden center said we may need 2 pallets of sod.

My 2 questions:
1)Say we pay $200 for the sod, how much should we be looking to pay "laborers" to install it properly?
2) If we do it this weekend, is that okay? - If not should we wait until the spring to resod?

From all of my research St. Augustine grass is not killed by webworms. It will bounce back next season. If your grass is dead it is most likely chinch bugs that killed it.

You should wait until spring. We paid about $650 (included sod) to have half of our average sized backyard done. The sod should not just be laid on top. The ground needs to be broken up and amended as necessary.

Thanks for the info. I know they are still selling sod and just don't want to half-ass it.

With that cost it seems like the labor costs more than the sod due to the amount of work involved.

It must have been chinch bugs or a fungus too. We literally see dirt in some areas.

Same thing happened to us, chinch bugs damaged part of our front yard. We treated it to kill them and stop the spread, but the grass (actually some dirt in places), won't grow back. I asked around and was told to just wait until March to resod.
