Did any of you guys internet service went out for more than half the day? I went to check my email around 2pm and it stops working. Just got it to work right now. I was wondering what is up with this. Any of you guys that have at&t get this problem sometime? It happen to me two or three times already. I called in and they told me someone called in to change the service. I know that no one called in because the last time I called in was to asked about the monthly bill. I don't know how someone could possibly called in to change the service. I asked my brother, but he told me he didn't called.

Hum... I've had DSL for over 10 yrs.. 1 time, the modem was old and croaked. Since I was a long time customer, AT&T replaced it for free. 1 other time, some construction was going on at the end of the street and the guy cut the cable by mistake. Those were the only 2 times that weren't my fault. The other times that DSL died were right after thunderstorms. All I had to do was rebooting the modem and firewall, all ran fine after the reboot.

May I ask, do you use a firewall in between? If you do, what brand do you use? That could be your problem too.

Have you tried to reboot DSL modem when it died? Well, when it happens again, you will have plenty of time to lay out cardboard and start your lasagna garden bed. LOL... I'm going to do the same this weekend. Have planned to do it for a month but haven't got around to it.

I'm paying $15/mth for DSL Pro (speed 54.0 mbps). How much would Comcast be?

You're not getting a 54M speed with DSL pro. Try 3.
54 is your router speed's potential (wireless G-standard) within the boundaries of your office bedroom.

You can do $30 for 12 mos for Uverse 12 Mbps but there are certain technological restrictions and repeaters. It's a solid 12 Mbps wired and 9 Mbps wireless out here in the burbs. A legacy B router wired immediately after the 2WIREXXX will transmit a good 100 ft radius still with enough bandwidth to do 1080 HD video using the newest codecs. AT&T 2WIRE's seem to have issues with certain Androids though.

Comcast would cost a bit more over the 12 month span. The service apparently operates in bursts (good for buffering) but slows down considerably after the burst. I've had nothing but trouble with cable modem, esp during peak 5-10pm, and after DSL & Uverse/fiber-optic I will never use cable again.

True... right now, it's showing that I'm getting 39.4 mbps which is still quite good for DSL. Never had much problem with DSL here at my house. If it's not broken why fix or change it? Still do not see the reason for changing something that have been reliable for me.

Thanks for all of your info though. It reinforced that I made the right decision for now.
