My wife, 2 year old daughter, and I moved to Kingwood about 5 months ago. We love it. We chose Kingwood over the Woodlands as the traffic was better on 59 compared to 45, and housing is a little less expensive in Kingwood as well.

Pros:

We love all the trees.
The traffic on 59 is significantly better than any other freeway I know of in Houston.
The trails, parks, pools, and other amenities are better than other developments we have lived in.

Cons:

We could use a few more restaurants, but that should improve as a new lakefront center with several restaurants is opening.
My wife says that Deerbrook Mall is fine during the week, but on the weekends she prefers driving over to the Woodlands if she needs to shop.

We live in Humble (Fall Creek) but spend a lot of time in Kingwood. This is where our pediatrician, Dentist, Eye Dr., Hair dresser, bakery, etc., are. Kingwood is beautiful and not terribly congested. There a lots trees, lakes and golf courses. The schools are good and the people are nice.

As the pp mentioned, the mall is just so-so and more restaurants are coming which will be very welcome. ~K~

We moved to Kingwood from Katy about 4 years ago and love it. It is pretty much built out unlike Katy and the Woodlands. There is a small town community feel and the schools are good. I love the trees and wildlife. My husband says the commute on 59 is the best in Houston.

Thanks for all the info. Most appreciated! Does anyone have information regarding the areas demographics? My high school in NJ was 52% minority and I'm looking to avoid that for my kids....plus there are way to many Hillary and Obama voters up here in NJ now, I need to get out of this dammed place!

By the way how is Kingwood HS's athletic dept? Baseball and Football specifically?

I believe the majority of people living in Kingwood are Republicans, you don't need to worry too much.
