How does Cy-Fair ISD rate?
I am currently considering relocating to Houston to teach middle school. From the research I've done on school districts there, Cypress Fairbanks seems like it has the best reputation. I'm especially looking at academics, safety, and relatively low teacher turn-over. I'm sure there are other good ones, but I'd love to hear from anyone who has experience with this district. Last year I visited a school district near the airport (Bush) and was really scared at what I saw--didn't look very safe at all.
I have visited the city (love it!) and am pretty sure I would like to live in Midtown (I am 23 years old). Would it be doable to commute from here to Cy-Fair? Any comments would be appreciated! Thanks!

Cy-Fair, Klein, The Woodlands, Katy, etc. All good districts on the West to North side of town.

Cy-Fair is great and good pay as well. I have a few friends who teach for CFISD. As for the commute time from Midtown it might be a little tough but more so coming home. What middle school are you planning on teach at?

Doing the reverse-commute thing from the Inner Loop to the suburbs is usually less painful, but not on 290. Maybe going down 288 to Pearland or Manvel might be easier.

Sounds pretty painful to me. Either try to get a job at a private school in Central Houston or move to Cy-Fair.

Okay, I'm considering all of this...thank you to those of you who have replied! Any other neighborhood suggestions, considering I'm young and single?

The median age of the city is something like 31 or 32... there are plenty of young and single people here. We'd need more info about your background, interests, and hobbies if you'd like more meaningful neighborhood recommendations.

Age 23 & single living in Midtown = good, but commute to Cypress = pretty bad. Age 23, living in Cypress = possibly hell, commute = easy 10 minutes. You're gonna have to give something up I'm afraid.
I know you're wanting info on this particular district, but you may want to take a few minutes to consider Clear Creek ISD. The schools are likely as good as the ones mentioned above, but I'm not sure exactly how it ranks. The water front areas as well as the Clear Lake area (Houston side) has nightlife of its own, as well as a sizeable UofH branch with people your age bracket, and you can find a place to live 10 minutes from work. Just a thought...

Tstone, I'm wondering what you mean by living in Cypress equalling "possibly hell." I understand that in the city there are more things to do, and in Midtown a concentration of people my age. But I have lived in small to medium sized towns in Michigan all my life, and have no idea what it's like to live in a place the size of Houston. So, maybe I wouldn't be so disappointed with someplace like Cypress? I don't know.
In exploring other options, would a commute from Midtown to Spring Branch ISD be any better (anyone know?)? Or, how about living in The Woodlands and commuting to Spring ISD (not Spring Branch). I have mentioned these schools because they will also be represented at the job fair I will be attending here in MI.

Cypress is great. It is not hell.
