Hi! Does anyone have advice on good, safe (fun?) places to live in Houston or surrounding area for a single female, no kids, commuting not an issue? And for less than $2000 a month? I am relocating from out of the US and I have never been to Houston, so any advice is greatly appreciated!

If you are going to be employed in Houston, housing accommodations could be better recommended if you provide an area where you will be working.

I work from home so commuting is not an issue at all.

I am answering my own post to clarify. Since you have never been to Houston, commuting and traffic is a very big issue. Living two hours away from work adds four hours to your day. Therefore being more specific may get recommendations you would be happier with.
Your price range should get you into housing in multiple areas in and around Houston.

Montrose - great restaurants, coffee shops, funky shops, 3 minutes to museum district.

Montrose looks fantastic! Is that the same as Neartown/Montrose? By any chance, do you have a zip code for that area?

Take a look at this thread, specifically Post #8 by ham307. She seems to be in a similar demographic as yourself and she took the time to post detailed impressions about Montrose, The Heights, Midtown and several other areas that your might find to be desirable.

I also recommend Montrose based on your criteria.

77006, 77019 and 77098. Folks refer to the area as Montrose. Never hear Neartown.

If you work from home, why would you want to move to Houston? It's a pretty terrible choice given the options.
