Hi, I am a 21 year old looking to move out of my parents house this year... I am saving money and Im moving out this year... I have 3 cities in mind. Dallas, Houston, and Atlanta. I'm a Native to Indiana but I find my state to be far behind in culture, and progressiveness. Not to mention the cold weather that's half of the year. Qualities I'm looking for are good employment, fair cost of living, weather, and southern hospitality. Help me choose a city guys!!!

I would need a little more details to make a better recommendation. I see you're looking for progressiveness which is something you can find in all 3 cities, but it would be great to hear more.

My skill set is very general, i have completed 1 Year of College. Roommates is something I would consider. I like hot weather, humidity isn't a problem for me at all. I've been to Atlanta before last year and that was great but I hear that Texas economy is just booming and I would like to think that Texas would be a smooth transition hearing that both Dallas and Houston have such booming economy's. I'm going to visit Houston in a week for a few days or so. What is your opinion on these 3 cities?

1) go wherever you have a job lined up or 2) wherever you have helpful family or friends

21 and lives with parents... don't you feel like you are too young to be moving out?

Houston is a very functional city, meaning that it won't be kind to you if you move here with no job or no skill set to land a job.

Reliable transportation is a must in any of these three cities.

Atlanta sounds more like your style.

This is a question that is difficult to answer without knowing more about the OP's interests. Plus, when we are young, we may not even know our own interests well. But ... that is an age at which it can be good to explore the world and find out what we like.

For me, Houston and Dallas are similar, although people in both cities often like to argue about which one is best, by one measure or another. I don't know Atlanta, but my gut feel is that it would be more different from the two Texas cities. The best thing would be for the OP to explore all 3, if possible. If I had to choose one, just one as a gamble, maybe I'd choose Dallas. But ... everyone's experience is likely to be different ...

and I say that as a native Houstonian. My home town is a cool city and often underappreciated. But, perhaps Dallas is easier for some people to get to know and like. I dunno.

With only one year of college and a "general" skill set, your choice of jobs in any city will be extremely limited (think waitstaff, grocery checker, parking attendant). The cost of living in Texas isn't as cheap as you may have been led to believe.

I understand the feeling of needing to move from home and live your own life. My suggestion: tough it out and stay where you are. As soon as you can, get a degree plus work experience in a field related to that degree. If you're unsure of what you eventually want to do career-wise, talk with college counselors.

I would just finish your college first and then think about moving.I would pick Houston out of those 3 cities.
