Default Renting Homes in Katy

I'm looking to move to Katy or some other suburb of Houston by the end of July 2008. My boyfriend and I would like to rent a house first before deciding to buy, just in case we don't like the area. How far is Katy from Galveston? I'm in my late-twenties and he's in his mid-thirties, not looking to start a family anytime soon. It seems from what I hear that Katy is more for families or people wanting to start one soon. Any suggestions on where to live for young couples without kids. We love Irish pubs and seeing bands. I welcome any suggestions! I can't wait to get out of this snowy weather in Chicago!

Where will you be working? From the sound of you hobbies, somewhere near midtown would probably fit you best.

Galveston is about 50 miles. If your looking for live music, etc. I would say find somewhere inside the inner loop. The Heights, Midtown and Montrose (As always) come to mind.

I second these areas for a young couple not looking to start a family. Katy is a suburb of Houston and quite a drive to the city and Galveston. The commute to the city can be upwards of one hour or more during rush hour. Of the three suggestions, I personally favor The Heights. We just moved back to Texas after living in Joliet, IL for almost a year. I miss Chicago, but not the cost of living!

Ditto on all comments above. You need to be "inner loop" Go the HAR.com and search rentals in area 16. That will give you an idea of housing costs. Then Google Irish pubs in Houston and you can get an idea of what Houston has to offer and locations of pubs. Where will you be working? Welcome!

If you would prefer the burbs so you can have a house with a yard as opposed to the totally urban environment, I would suggest the woodlands or sugarland over katy. All three are nice but the woodlands and sugarland have more in the way of good bar scene and night life compared to katy. None of the burbs have the same number or variety of places to go compared to montrose of midtown, but aren't a bad compromise if you also want to rent an affordable house.
