Private online high schools in Houston ? Legal ? Not yet ? (Dallas: credit, homes)

Seeing so many people caring for the schools in Houston,I decided to create this new thread.

Maybe the question is naive,maybe those schools d n exist yet,maybe there is no legal framework for those.

However,seeing the popularity & the convenience of accredited private online Universities,where u can even get a Msc. degree,I wonder if there already exist private accredited high schools ,covering the Houston area & solving drastically so many problems.

Commuting,
bad weather ,
quality of co-students,
end of bullying & harassment,
convenience...,
no chance for "Columbine-style "massacres

Lower costs than a private school with in-classroom teaching facilities.

Maybe this is the way to go in education.

I welcome opinions.

There is "home schooling." But no private online High Schools that I know of.

I know of a kid in Dallas who travels for chess competitions - he misses too many school days for public or private schools. He does a curriculum on-line through the University of Texas - sounds like a form of homeschooling.

If there was such a school, already, it would have been advertised somewhere..

Maybe the legal framework d n exist yet...

It is an intruiging concept...

Also, no opportunity for:

Athletics,
music,
studio arts,
social interaction,
boy/girlfriends,
male bonding,
female bonding,
learning things "the hard way" (for which I believe there is something to be said)
camaraderie,
espirit de corps,
independence from parents,
and several others that escape me at the moment.

Without a doubt, high-school has a host of problems and a wide array of opportunities for improvement, but there are some very important lessons to be learned and experiences garnered that do not or could not happen in a home-schooling environment. It is your natural duty to protect your children, but there is a fine line between protection and sheltering, which is a disservice in the long-run. Everyone needs to know how to deal with bullies and individuals of low-character, and I think that virtue lies in making good decisions to stay away from bad crowds and bad behaviors rather than in complete isolation from them. I would be very interested to hear any takes from people who were home-schooled.

You can take a GED.I dont know about other kids but mine love public school and would refuse to not have highschool cheerleading and sports etc. etc.Being around large groups of people and learning how to get along is a learning experience in itself.

I d n disagree...

Socialising can happen in meetings,in sports,on occasions,celebrations.

Just no classrooms,or...virtual classrooms...

I just think that an online school can be inherently cheaper,avoiding the millions that building,land,buses & the whole infrastructure of a traditional school costs.

ehhh. American's really like High School. I know I wouldn't have missed it for the world.

I think society is becoming very introverted because of the internet. And that's NOT a good thing.

See it as an application of the american spirit of practicality & convenience...

On the contrary,we communicate better because of the internet.

We became more extrovert...

One thing you cant do on the internet is look someone in the eye and size him up and tell if he is full of it or not.Computers are great but i dont want my kid to sit at home in front of a computer from birth till death just to save a few bucks.I think this would lead to even more wierdos than we have now.
