Imo, the best gated property is your own home gated like those rich folks up in Beverly Hills.

Gated communities in an MPC is an oxymoron, IMHO. Put a gate across your driveway on the westside of Houston.....walla.....your own gated community without the Desperate Housewives trapped in there with you.

Where? Unmanned gates are only left open rarely, like during open house events or have contractor/mover activity

Why? Masterplanned doesn't mean additional security. It's more like eye candy

Apparently, being "gated" doesn't prevent feral cows so ....

Gates don't mean burglars can't get through. Just like burglar bars or home alarms aren't foolproof. But they're an additional deterrent. It's worth it to some folks and not to others.

I see them open all the time pretty much everywhere and then they close them around 5 or 6 p.m.

hmm I live in a cheap community and the gate is very rarely stuck open. I can't even punch in when some power surge knocks out the memory LOL
Perhaps they're still showing inventory homes

I've always found it humorous that the gated communities were in the areas that were "lower-crime," but not found where you really need them in the "higher-crime," closer-in areas. When you live 15 - 20 miles away from (in my case,) Austin, do you really need to have a gate?
