Default Where to live in-between TMC and JSC

My husband and I will be relocating to Houston. He will be working near NASA/JSC. However, I will probably be working near the Texas Medical Center. Is there anywhere nice to live in-between? When I look at the map at what is in-between those two places, I just see Hobby Airport, and usually neighborhoods near airports are less than desirable.

I would prefer a commute of 30 minutes or less. We don't have any kids, so schools are not an issue. We will probably want to start out renting.

I don't really know Houston well at all, so would appreciate any suggestions!

Friendswood, Clear Lake, League City (would be slightly farther for your commute though), Pearland - all would be a nice commute between the two work locations and all are good areas with good school districts. If schools aren't important - you might look in Glenbrook Valley near Hobby - however this is a great area in transition so it doesn't have a lot of desireable retail, etc. But the area immediately around it is less than desirable - - Only nice, large, older homes with a good commute but until it comes back alive again - not much else around it that I would feel comfortable with.

I didn't realize that it would be that difficult! I looked at the map and I think League City is just too far a commute for me. My husband is more willing to be further away from his job than I am.

How long would it take to get to TMC from Pearland in the morning? What is Pearland like?

Any other suggestions on places to look would be great. We will probably be renting an apartment or a house (up to 1100/mo).

Thanks!

Pearland's got plenty of traffic and doesn't need any more of it. There are places inside the loop that you can rent that are close to TMC in your range (apartments in Midtown, maybe even a duplex in Montrose), but not so much the space center. This is one pair of locations in Houston where the pickings in between are rather slim.

Slim to none - seems the closest 'desirable' place between the two spots would be a neighborhood along Clear Lake City Blvd. That'll be about 15-20 mins to/from JSC and about 30-60 mins to/from TMC depending on the time of day & traffic. There are some rental houses here, usually about $1,500/mo and up.

Now that I think about it, there are some places off Dixie Farm Rd. New development also on Scarsdale, not sure what that's about. It's in the beginning phases.

I wouldn't go any further north than this...

All along I-45 from the Beltway to 610 is flood-central. Because of this remember that if you live in Clear Lake/Ellington area, 1-2x per year - you may be stuck at home unable to get to work... or stuck in traffic for 2+ hours trying to get home.

Also if you're ever down in that flood zone, knowing Spanish is a big + . Best part of town for Mexican food, bar-none.

And strip clubs / 24-hour 'news stands.'

HA - well, you're not gonna escape those places in Clear Lake. We have a couple of them, but they're blended into strip malls... not staring you in the face with giant 420 or neon signs like they do in between here and TMC.
