We have an opportunity to move to the Houston area that we would like to take soon. I would be attending Texas chiropractic college in Pasadena, which is not an ideal place to raise a family I have heard. What are your thoughts on that? (4 kids: high school (homeschooled), jr high (public school- an athlete), elementary (public sco-she's anxious in big schools) & prek( private daycare). My husband can transfer his job which would be located between Jersey City and Cypress. It seems that commute to Pasadena would be really hard on me so where is another area that we could live and both commute about 30 to 45 minutes to work/school ? I don't mind older homes if we can have a bigger lot & nice schools. Thank you !

Pasadena isn't a bad place but it doesn't have a good school district. You could live in neighboring deer park for close proximity to chiropractic school for a good school district for the kids or in clear lake with great schools. However, the commute for the hubby would be very long. Not sure of your budget but finding something in between might be better for you both. Perhaps kingwiod?

So commuting to opposite sides of the city with the most expensive areas of Houston splitting the 2.

Thank you so much t_marney. Yes I do need an agent. Can you link me to your contact info. Your info was very helpful.
Budget: $1450-1650 a month depending on hoa/fees
4 bedroom/2 bath/ 2k sq ft minimum. I prefer trees, more space, more yard-- over a newer build. But I do also like the idea of a gated community or one with shared amenities.
What we we realistically talking on drive time. Is living near spring or kingwood just crazy talk?

Here we go again, some newbie thinks you can have it all, affordable, good schools, and close to work. It has been said before many, many times, you can have 2 of 3 and that's it. So pick which 2 you want.

You are not going to find what you want in Houston without either you or your husband having a long commute. Your better bet is to live in Deer Park for the schools and have your husband commute to Jersey Village/Cypress which would be a bit less miserable than a Jersey Village/Cypress to Pasadena commute.

on your budget deer park would provide you a comfortable lifestyle with good schools. It is a good community for families. You won't find gated in that budget.

Some parts of Pasadena are in the Deer Park school district, and some far southern parts are in the Clear Creek school district.

I would have suggested central Houston but the rents are probably much higher there. You could use HAR to see what rentals in the Montrose area cost.

You will be better off renting somewhere for a year until you get used to the areas around Houston. Commuting can be miserable! Since you have highschoolers it will be very important to make good decisions and not lock yourself in.
