hi, we hare first time home owners and recently had blinds installed and took out the curtains. now when the wind blows and the windows are shut the wind rattles the blinds so wind is obviously coming though somewhere. We have not really done any maintenance on the windows since buying the house in 2011. What d you think this is? Weatherstripping or caulking? Who would we hire to fix it? A handyman or a special window person? Thank you.

A friend of ours had a trendmaker home built for them. One window was installed upside down.

You could check and see if the caulk around the outside of the windows was done. If the home is still under builders warranty, they should fix this. If you don't know the builder, ask your neighbors. Homes in any subdivision are usually built by a handful of the same builders. This sounds like a builder problem.

To be clear, the OP didn't say whether they bought it new or not.

OP--can you give us an idea of how old the house is? And if it's an older home, have the windows been replaced at any time? Also, are the windows that leak air aluminum or vinyl? And do they open, and if so, do they go up & down (AKA single hung), or do they slide sideways (AKA horizontal slider).

Thanks. To give you the best answer possible, I need this info.

Wait for a breezy day and stick you hand close to the window. You will be able to feel where the wind is coming in.

Not knowing your windows, it is hard to determine. If they are old wooden double hung, it is where the rope and weight are in the window, If newer probably old caulk.

OP--we're happy to help, but several of us asked some very specific questions, and you haven't answered any of them. If you want to move forward on this, go back and read our replies, and answer them. Then we can help.

Good luck!

Most likely..., based on the scenario described, the "new" blinds are rattling due to the AC supply vents being positioned correctly to dump onto the exterior walls/ windows. Doubtful it has anything to due with the window itself.
