We are moving to Houston from South Dakota and will need to set up our utilities for the house we're moving into. Where do I call to have the electric and gas hooked up? Will there be deposits that I will have to budget for? What are good high speed internet companines to contact? Thanks for the help!

A few tips:

AT&T U-Verse is better and cheaper than Comcast

The cheapest 1-year deal on electricity right now is a company called RiverwayPower.com which is offering 11.0 cents/kwhr (fyi - electric utilities in Texas are horrendously expensive ever since deregulation).

Smile Cheapest I could find

I just moved in to TX and was looking for best option for my utilities and after few days of research I may suggest Ambit Energy . For me it's just great. Lowest I could find and no hassle. It was referred by my Realtor as they do not advertise much, but it's one of biggest players.
Just my experience. Actually many of my friend and neighbors are switching.
Unfortunately there's no choice with gas supply. Yet.

Hi, I'm having the same problems. I am moving from England to study in Houston for 11 months. Can you get 11 month contracts? Also which is the best gas company? With cable tv and internet, do I need to get a modem or anything to access the internet? Comcast seems to be the only provider I can find. Are there any others? Thanks!
