HOUSTON - Pride Week is less than a week away and Houston officials have created a rainbow crosswalk to honor the LGBTQ community in Montrose.

Many Houstonians were thrilled and proud to see the brightly colored cross streets Saturday.

With the permission of the city and sponsoring of Houston Pride, the UP Art Studio designed and painted the intersection of Westheimer Road and Taft Street rainbow colors to match a memorial dedicated to a local man who was recently killed in an accident.

There's really nothing wrong with it considering it's only a few streets in a historically gay area, other than it looks unbelievably tacky and perhaps could distract a few drivers. Then again, Montrose is more faux-yuppy families than anything else at this point other than pacific st.

They look good now, but as they fade, they might look tacky.

I wonder if there is some account in place to maintain them.

Actually that intersection isn't the responsibility of any HOA that I know of - and I don't know of any civic association in the area called the "Montrose HOA."

It would be more appropriate for the Management District to maintain it, but you may have heard that it's having some legal issues...
