hello,

i am moving to the houston area in the summer and am trying to decide where to live. i am a 22 yr old single male and have a job in stafford,tx. i originally thought it would be best to live in sugar land as my future manager suggested thats a nice place. after looking on this forum, it would seem that more downtown is better for young people. i would like to be around people similar in age but is sugar land completely devoid of young people? im guessing midtown is a popular choice?

how would the commute be from midtown to stafford? i suppose i would be going against traffic so thats good right?

please offer opinions on the pros and cons of living at a place like midtown vs sugar land.

also any experiences with apartments in both locations.

my plan as of now is to move to an apartment in sugarland with the intention of being there < 6 months and gauge from there whether i should stay in sugar land or if i would go insane living there and decide to move to midtown. is this a silly plan?

thanks

If you're 22, you certainly don't want to live down in Sugarland. Live in Midtown. The commute is against traffic and isn't bad at all, especially after the first few weeks when you learn the route and which lanes move faster. I lived in Camden Midtown for about 6 months and worked out past Highway 6. The commute was about 20 minutes in the morning and moved fast.

Obviously Sugarland isn't void of 22 year olds, but if you're looking for the 'fresh out of college' and still want to frequent bars and socialize sceen, you want Midtown.

One point of advice, don't get an apartment right on Louisiana. The busses are LOUD in the morning if you have an apartment by the street!

I also concur about Rice Village and West U. Great places for youngsters and the apartments shouldn't be too terrribly bad.
