Seabrook, love it or hate it?
I love the area, and wonder what bad things should I be aware of prior to purchasing in the area. Also, anyone want to comment on the high schools?
How is traffic into Houston, how long is the commute to I-59 at rush hour?

Yikes! 59 during rush hour? Wouldn't want that commute. It's about 25 - 30 minutes to 59 N or S from Deer Park using 225 and 610 during a good commute day.
Seabrook is a nice, fun area...bad things...must have wind/flood insurance, Evacuation Zone A means you need to be prepared to leave for a Cat 1 hurricane or possibly a strong Tropical Storm. That's about all the negs I can think of. Nice community really.

I love Seabrook - feels like an escape at the end of the day. Still has a friendly, everyone looks out for each other type vibe. Schools are excellent. Not sure if it is mainly along Nasa Road 1 or in other areas of Seabrook but if there is a hurricane in the gulf (not necessarily coming to Texas - just in the Gulf near the coast somewhere) Nasa Road 1 usually floods from high tides caused by those offshore hurricanes and tropical storms. They are building a ton of new hi-rises there and taking up the water view from Nasa Road 1 and will probably cause prices of homes to escalate in the general vicinity as the influx of people with high incomes brings in more expensive retail, restaurants, etc. Armando's is opening up a restaurant out there - he's been in Houston for years.

Seabrook is nice, plenty to do and see. A little more rain than i like but no big deal. Great resaurants in the area but I would not like to commute anywhere more than 20 miles now with gas soaring. There are alot of nice places but watch your area for flooding.

Love it, personally. The schools are good, the area's nice. Your commute won't be fun, for sure, especially if you're an earlier commuter, and you'll probably want to purchase flood insurance, but other than that, you'll like it just fine.

Welcome to Seabrook! We live out on Seabrook Island and absolutely love it! It is a very laid back community...and the people, for the most part, are all very friendly. Nothing like a hurricane to bring the community and neighbors together! DH works downtown...if he leaves the house by 6:30...it is a 45 min. commute....coming home can be iffy....he usually opts to stay until 5:15 is home by 6:30. He says, the commute is all worth it once he walks in the door and takes in the views...Stress is washed away!

Where is Seabrook Island? And if it's where I think, does the name Nash ring a bell?

Right off of Red Bluff before you hit 146. Have to weave your way back to Taylor Lake.
Nash does not sound familiar...but then again, there are alot of people here I don't know
And, I know alot of people by first name only.

My family and I really like living in Seabrook. I like the fact that we are zoned to Clear Lake High, which many think of as the best of the Clear Creek ISD high schools. My wife works at the med center and she likes the commute better from Seabrook (146 to 225 to 610) than when we lived closer to 45 in clear lake. I work in clear lake and have a 5-10 minute commute.
The last hurricane season was a little rough. Our subdivision seemed to survive quite well. It's a newer subdivision and had very little fence/roof damage. The subdivision that you pass through to get to ours is a bit older and they lost a lot of fencing and I've noticed a lot of roof work. Obviously Old Seabrook on the east side of 146 got hit very hard... lots of damage along Todville Rd. Seabrook was completly closed down and under police barricade after the storm... they weren't letting people back in for about 3 days I believe.
If you have a family, I think you'll really enjoy Seabrook. The Kemah boardwalk is right up the road, and my kids love going there. Plenty of nice parks nearby to enjoy. Lots of friendly people as well.
I just wish Tookies would reopen... have yet to find a replacement for their No 99.
