Email them a copy of your ticket. They go to court on your appointed date for you. They get you a new trial date or a dismissal at that time. If a new date then you go to court where about 90% of the time the officer doesn't show or agrees to dismiss

It's very simple.
In my recent experience I had to go to the court and spend about 3 hours there. The court date was rescheduled, yes. And I went there about a year after the ticket was issued. And guess what: the officer was there. A year after(!!!)
For some reason my ticket got dismissed, but seems like it was due to a clean record before.

sounds like you had a "hard nose" police officer. more often than not they are no-shows.

what ever happened to innocent until proven guilty?

now you can go to court on your own, plead not guilty, set a new court date (trial by jury) and likely the police officer will not show for that one. this results in the same "dismissed" as if you went with a lawyer also. save the $100 and do the leg work yourself.

Most likely, you will have to go anyway. Check with a lawyer or the court office though. If you want to save some vacation time, choose safety course instead.

And you can easily take the defensive driver course online in your own time.

you will have to go once.
the first court date (the one on your ticket) the lawyer will go for you and reset the case date. usually for about a month later.
they will send you a reminder a few days before.
you will not even see your lawyer face to face until that day.

(i just went through this with my first speeding ticket in about 25 years.)

I heard about no shows before and also thought they normally don't show up at a court. But I am pretty sure they developed some kind of tracking system that keeps them informed about the upcoming court dates. And you know what, they probably don't want to miss court dates because it's like an extra vacation time for them.

Several years ago I came to the court in Pennsylvania in order to contest a ticket. And I anticipated that the officer doesn't show up. But he came and offered me zero points for coming to the court. I agreed.
This time in Texas I was 99.5% sure that the officer misses the court, but he actually came.

Actually most officers dislike going to court.
I train with a lot of police, every one of them HATES going to court and would rather be in the field.

I own a construction company, I hate office days too.
