I think it varies from person to person. Personally, I usually don't use amazon. Well I do but very rarely. I usually shop in person. I like to see what I'm getting and I also hate waiting. But that's just me

Amazon is great for bulk purchases. I buy a 3 month supply from them of stuff like kleenex, toilet paper, pet food.

I only buy books on Amazon, free shipping, cheap used copies in good condition. It's a no-brainer.

Hype? Me thinks not.

BTW, I thought of another place I still shop (I mentioned groceries & clothes above) local, not Amazon: Home Depot. DIY supplies in general are much easier to get/find locally than Amazon.

The only exception is stuff I buy at Costco. We go there at least twice a month and I love it. Can't remember the last time I walked into a shopping mall
This. I used to shy away from Amazon for clothes, but since we got Prime, I can order a bunch of things (especially shoes in different sizes) and then return what I don't like.

I'm sure in 20 years, our kids will complain how Amazon is the only game in town. But for now, they obviously fit a need.

When I began purchasing with Amazon, the minimum purchase to qualify free shipping was only $25. Then, it increased to $35 and later $49. So, I purchased less and less from them. Recently, they went back to $25 minimum purchase for free shipping and I began to use them more. As always, I compare the total price (including tax) before purchasing. Many times, eBay wins over for the same item.

Amazon has what I want, they have decent reviews on their products, I can shop from my home, and receive it quickly. For ebooks it's instant and wonderful. You can't beat the selection and prices. Their customer service is good, too.

I especially love it on dry dog food in those 30lb bags. I can order on Amazon and they deliver it right to my door. No need to drive to a local store, pick it up off the shelf, drop it in my cart, get it out of my cart and into the car, then carry it into the house. The convenience is worth every penny. PRIME is a good program. I don't shop at SAMS anymore and have no interest in COSTCO.

I will say I won't buy name brand clothes on Amazon. Best to buy clothes at a store where you can feel the texture and quality of the cloth. Trying on clothes has never gone out of style.

I grocery shop weekly and never use the self check out. Using those means someone isn't being hired. So I go to a lane with a person and yes I do tip. I appreciate them and let them know.

Annual retail sales for the US alone have been roughly $5T for the past few years. Global Amazon retail sales are just over $100b. There's a ways to go yet. My guess is that poll respondents here are a little more web-connected than the average consumer.
