I get what he's saying. When people usually refer to "East Coast", they are referring to the Mid-Atlantic, Northeast, and New England. Pretty much anything south of maybe North Carolina is looked at differently culturally.

I agree. That is "southeast," but not "east coast." Just like people in Alabama, Mississippi, etc don't consider Texas part of the south ("out west" is what I hear most often when they talk about us).

In reading post over the months on C-D in Texas forums or others? East Texas claims the most Southern influence. But still by region today as a state .... linking itself as a Southwestern state. Of course, history has Texas clearly being a former Confederate state and Confederate statues stand. But TODAY for TEXAS - It is more likely to see the state ..... as a WHOLE 'NOTHER COUNTRY. That being superior then a Oklahoma /Arkansas to its north and Louisiana /Mississippi to the west. It's about:
- Uniqueness and Size
- stature in growth and booming
- NOT to be seen as Deep-South with a backwards connotation
- it's coming of age is much Much MORE then they are

Texas again .... sees it stands alone. Whether South or Southwestern as a state. It even had some think succession possibilities? It should be noted though .... that it's a myth that Texas is the only state - that could succeed from the US. There IS NO LEGAL WAY IT COULD. But of course, most do see themselves as solidly Americans too and more Yankees Corporate America drives the relocation of them to low-corporate and income tax states Texas is a key one for.
