Just got back from our trip. I'd like to thank those of you who were not alarmist because the trip went just fine.

In fact, other than the horrific traffic due mostly to the Beltway 8 closure, I wouldn't have even known anything had happened if I somehow hadn't followed the news.

Only one of the 9 homes we had planned to see suffered damage (the one in Richmond).

Thanks all again and I can't wait to join you as a fellow Houstonian! :-)

Great choice (despite the high tax rates)! Bridgeland only received localized street flooding in the Lakeland heights area, but overall fared really well, and is already one of the more amenity rich neighborhoods in all of suburban Houston (and it's less than 1/4th built). The area is very low crime with a lot of police precincts and substations nearby, has good schools and is almost uniformly upper middle class, plus plenty of new land around with other upper middle class neighborhoods planned or already underway, so should be a sought after place going forward for the next few decades. The major complaint right now is the lack of high quality retail, and to be fair, the existing retail and restaurants are not that bad at all and only getting better, but Cypress has a long way to go before it catches up with say The Woodlands or Sugarland. With all the nice housing stock there or going in later, a lot more nice retail will certainly follow suit along with it. The only other con is the roads. The thoroughfares built are wide & awesome, but we need more of them finished and a few of the existing ones widened, not to mention 290 construction is horrendous. The roadway issues should be fixed soon as the 290 widening is scheduled to be completed by fall 2018 and several road updates are being planned. Off the top of my head, tuckerton and Bridgeland creek parkway will be extended west to connect with 99 within the next year, greenhouse should extend north and cross underneath the tracks to connect with skinner rd at 290 in the next 2 years, and then sometime in the near future mueschke & mason rd will extend south of 290 and connect with mound rd, which itself will be extended west from fry. These changes will greatly help mobility for South Cypress once done. My mom lives in Towne Lake, so on behalf of my family, welcome to Cypress :].

I totally agree with your assessment and thanks for the welcome! We're really looking forward to watching the area develop, it has so much potential.

Love Bridgeland. They had no new sections open when we were looking to build in 2013 but have lots of friends there. We're just down the road in Cypress Creek Lakes. Welcome to the "neighborhood".

The taxes are crazy here. Property is listed at $274,000. Appraised at $291,236 for taxes. Increased 10% every year for the past 2 years. Anyone gets a 10% raise every year?
