I saw the CNN radar and can't believe this would slip into GOM. That would be a huge disaster.

There is a trough/cold front coming through the US, which can "catch" Irma, and have her re-curve away from the Gulf back through the Atlantic. But the timing has to be right; if the trough lifts away too soon, or if Irma is too slow, it could head westward with less hindrance.

Most of the spaghetti models show it turning north at the southern tip of Florida, lets hope it turns north sooner and stays out at sea..

I dont know why it should magically drift towards Florida. Even they models are drawn that way. But Right now its exactly inbetween Cuba and Florida and if it travels it hits Houston again.

It has no chance of hitting Houston, zero. There's a huge front in the Gulf that's going to block it from getting into the Gulf that will push it northeast towards Florida. That same front is also going to block TS Katia, which developed down in the Gulf near Mexico, from getting to US shores.

a front is exactly what let Harvey 'park' over Houston; this one could do the same
