A group of church members are heading to Houston to help with the clean up. I would like to know if we should bring our own gasoline or are there plenty of gasoline stations with gas now available? Should we bring food or are there plenty of grocery stores open? Should we bring our own drinking water or is the water safe? Or maybe we can just buy water from the grocery store but are the stores open or does water even stay on the shelves long enough? Thank you for any helpful info ya'll can give me. We are traveling from the Dallas area.

Outside of flooded neighborhoods Houston is pretty much operating as normal. Plenty of gas food and water to be had.

The city is up and running -- we aren't hurting for food, water or gas. City water is drinkable unless you just prefer bottles. So many were flooded out of their homes and neighborhoods and many more were not affected. It was huge pockets of homes on every side of town that were affected and also not affected.

Thank you all for your helpful info. I just found out that our location to volunteer has been moved to Beaumont. So over there we go tomorrow morning and Sunday as well. Thanks again!

They had a clip on the news about bacteria being high in homes. Wear a mask, rubber gloves, treat cuts quickly, and something news I learned - Wash your clothes you wore apart from your other clothes. People with immune problems / asthma and allergies need to watch / avoid helping out.

Good luck!
