Default Diverse neighborhoods??

Hi...I just found out I am being transferred to Houston. We live in a very safe, culturally diverse and close-knit community in Denver. What is a good neighborhood in Houston that would be similar to this? I'll be working at 6900 Alameda (the VA). I kind of shy away from raising my kid in a homogenous environment where everyone looks like us, drives the same car, pretty much living in houses that look all the same. We have really enjoyed our current neighborhood where the family next door is Russian, the family across the street is African American, on the other side of us is a Hispanic couple, surrogate grandparents abound, block parties, progressive dinners...you get the picture. any suggestions?

This has been discussed many times in the forum. Might help to do a search of the threads. Most neighborhoods in Houston are pretty diverse but check those threads.

There are many onderful places - near Herman Park, Rice, Height's, many of the older suburb's you will find diversity. I would look more south/southwest than north/northwest, though.
