I would rather be taxed on something I choose to purchase like a home, than penalized for earning more money.
Also, it is unfair to compare Nevada, since the population of the entire state of Nevada is less than just the City of Houston, plus the gambling and tourist room taxes pays for a lot. Florida may be a better example.

I personally do think the property taxes are too high, and would love a flat tax or overall sales tax on everything in lieu of income taxes, but I probably won't see that in my lifetime.

Where the hell did you pull that number from?

NRS 361.4723 provides a partial abatement of taxes by applying a 3% cap on the tax bill of the owner's primary residence (single-family house, townhouse, condominium or manufactured home). Only one property may be selected in the State of Nevada as a primary residence. Some rental dwellings that meet the low-income rent limits may also qualify for a 3% cap on the tax bill.
A cap of up to 8% on the tax bill will be applied to residences that are not owner occupied

I heard the proposed new tax plan will keep property taxes and mortgage insurance. Some may not even need to itemize it as the standard deduction will double.

In a 3 miles radius around my house, there's over 50k people.

The 10% cap is the Texas cap for homesteads

Actually it eliminates the property tax deduction so itemizing just for mortgage interest will no longer make sense for many with a doubled standard deduction.

Even now, the vast majority do not itemize.

Yep! Personal exemptions will be gone so it may be a zero sum gain for most filers.

In addition, the removal of personal exemption may persuade some households to kick their college kids and elderly parents to the curbs because head of household status will be gone.

I am going to go have to check what we took in itemized deductions last year. We had almost $15k in property taxes. Ouch.

Keep in mind that the "doubling" of the standard deduction is a red herring:
