I have to stay in Houston for 2 weeks for business. While there I want to experience some of the nightlife there. Which neighborhood or areas have the best nightlife scene for someone in their mid 20s like myself?

Depends on what you’re looking for. Montrose, the Heights, Midtown are all good spots for bars, as is the north part of downtown along Main Street. Check out this list that was just posted for some of the better bars in town. One bar that wasn’t on this list that is what I would consider “quintessential Houston” is West Alabama Icehouse.

Stay away from midtown if you are by yourself and don't know the area. I know multiple people who have been mugged there and beaten up. It's rare but does happen. Midtown is essentially a frat party superimposed over a low income part of town. For better safety I would try rice village or uber to Washington avenue.

Yeah, you can get mugged in The Woodlands too. Ignore SpringBrancher's advice. He or she is an old fuddy duddy who doesn't branch out.

Mid 20's is the Midtown crowd. Downtown is a mix of everything depending on the bar. Montrose is a cool area. There isn't much going on Washington Ave these days. The Rice Village is nice.

Midtown rooftop and clubish:
Dogwood
Proof
Capitol Bar
3rd Floor

Midtown patios and more laid back:
Irish Cowboy
Little Woodrow's
Axelrad
Holman Draft Hall
Wooster's Garden
Pub Fiction
Belle Station

Downtown patios:
Captain Foxheart's Bad News Bar - rooftop
El Big Bad - rooftop
Hoggbirds Rooftop Lounge
La Carafe - rooftop on the weekends
Batanga
Part & Parcel @ THE Whitehall Hotel
Lawless
Live Sports Bar - rooftop

Then you have a bunch of options in the Montrose area.

Mr. Krinkle....Proof showcases some of the best rock bands from the 80's. I don't know how they get these guys to come to Houston, but it is a breath of fresh air. Y&T plays this Thursday.

I checked Washington Ave recently, it was full of crappy ghetto music Not gonna come back in next few years, that's for sure. I remember better times there, but seems like it went downhill in last couple of years.

What are the best clubs in Midtown now? (less diverse / better music, not ghetto style, not necessarily rock but something decent)?
