On the whole I would think that those other areas would be a lot cheaper. The thing about Houston city proper is, at 600 square miles, there is a wide price range, which many other major cities simply can't offer, (especially because they ARE so dense and space is limited within their entire metro. I remember I did a search for a one bedroom on SF CraigsList, searching within the city limits, only to find that it takes about $1700 to break the barrier of suburban SF and city proper SF and the apartments weren't in good areas by any means.) However, it must be stated Houston is on par with the prices of the average American town, but compared to the major cities it is far less expensive. That said, you could probably find SOMETHING in Houston that would be comparable to any of those other areas you listed. The question is: Does the price match the value?
