Hello all! So, I was born and raised here in Houston, moved to Austin and lived there about 5 years, and have been back in Houston for the last 10. The main thing I miss about Austin is the variety of things there are to do outdoors there, but I can't move back and take my son away from his entire family. However, I am looking for a more outdoor, active lifestyle for myself and my son. So Galveston here we come! I am currently in the planning phase, so I would like to get any and all information that I can. Namely, schools and neighborhoods. But any and all inside info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Schools in Galveston aren’t the best from what I’ve heard. You might also inquire about private schools. Tiki island is popular and pricier. Might be interesting to see where those residents send their kids to school. Galveston is full of good and bad areas. There’s a neighborhood near the moody island golf course that is gorgeous. Seems like the name begins with an E. I’ll see if I can look it up.

I'd look at Seabrook instead. Good schools and still have access to water and outdoors.

Galveston is a unique place (for both good and bad reasons, not least of which is the storm risk...) that can have a lot to offer for certain types of folks. Just be aware, city politics there are beyond crazy - equal to or surpassing League City. If you're someone who likes to be involved in that sort of thing, be prepared.
