Smell in Pearland?????
Coming from California (San Francisco), I will agree you don't have the fragrance of the ocean in Pearland, but smelling of chemical plants?? I will agree Pasadena smells as do certain parts of Houston. The part of Pearland on the 288 Corrider Silverlake, Silvercreek and Shadow Creek Ranch have no obvious odor. I moved here because of Pearland's proximity to the med center and its distance from any heavy industry. Silverlake/Silvercreek are about 20-30 minutes aways (on the freeway) from Pasadena. The older part of Pearland adjacent to Friendswood, however is closer to the gulf and Pasaena and I guess it could be possible to smell the smell from Pasadena (but I still doubt it).

Hi yawl. Former lurker now posting.
We've lived in West Pearland for two years, after moving here from outside Texas. Actually, we're looking to get out, though we think it's probably convenient for others, for many of the reasons above ... We work in Clear Lake and enjoy that atmosphere more...the inner loop has more culture, and the Bay Area has a wider variety of things to do, and not everything closes up as early as in Pearland. But if you are planning to spend a lot of time in the center of the city and prefer lower housing costs than buying in the loop, this might still be a good choice. I second the great opinion of Croissant Brioche!!
Anyway, the main thing I would warn people about before moving here, is the heavy traffic on Farm Road 518, increasing as you head towards Silver Lake. It is gridlocked after 3:30 or so, and weekends are the worst. There is a LOT of construction that is going to be going up, very soon. There is going to be a major mall on the other side of the 288, near the Silver Lake big box stores, and another big, big construction going in that will include part of Iowa Colony and Manvel (which are rural right now). If you don't like dealing with traffic, I would suggest you buy in the western, older part of Pearland, and do more shopping south (Friendswood), or on the 45. We often head south rather than battle the crowds
As far as the smell from Pasadena, Pearland is a pretty big town. Occasionally I've caught "the scent of money," as they used to call it, but not on a regular basis where I would be disgusted or not want to live here.

Pearland is not "right next to Pasadena." I live on the west side of Pearland, adjacent to 288, and I never smell anything. If there's a smell on the east side (closer to Pasadena), I haven't heard anyone complain about it, and I know lots of people who live that way.
I love living in Pearland. It's a growing city with tons of new shopping and restaurants. Once you get involved in the community, like Little League, church, etc., it's rare that you go out without seeing someone you know. I really like that - it feels like a small town.

hahahah -- Pasadena smelling up Pearland - I laughed so hard I spilled my soft drink. I'm a native Houstonian and I can tell you that even all of Pasadena doesn't smell - only the area along 225 where the plants actually are. The term Stink-A-Dena came around in the 1960's when the majority of the city was built along hwy 225 and that is the highway that the chemical plants are all on. Parts of Pasadena border Clear Lake and some luxury waterfront Clear Lake homes actually have a Pasadena address. Whatever you are smelling in Pearland -- get a grip on yourself (or maybe get over yourself) it isn't Pasadena. You might want to check the demographics too - some of those people who live in Pasadena .. SHOCK ... may have a higher income than you and be less snooty.

$3.71 per $100 valuation is still a lot, especially in comparison with the rest of the Houston metropolitan area's taxes. 4.01 was just plain ridiculous.
I live in the Memorial area and we pay $3.04. Of course, our infrastructure is already in place. People out there in SCR have to pay $$ just to flush a toilet. It is nice though, and if you're willing to pay that extra, then more power to you.

Since you are from CA, you may want to consult your map.

No. The first giveaway was "....we are staying here from CA..." the second was their geographical error. The names are clever though, "Stinkydena" and "Pooland". Charming. When I go to someone else's home for dinner, I usually wait until I'm well out of their driveway before I start criticizing their china pattern.
That's just me.

I lived in P'dena for 2 years recently and smell was never an issue.
The Goodyear plant located in Houston (near the NW corner of Pasadena) is pretty smelly in the immediate vicinity.
Pasadena smelliest issues came when there was a paper mill (located north of 225). It closed down several years ago.
