See how Houston ranks among top metros for private-sector job growth

Houston's private sector is among the fastest-growing in the nation.

The number of private-sector jobs in the Houston metropolitan area grew from roughly 2.3 million in April 2008 to 2.7 million in April 2018 — or 18.7 percent — according to new figures from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics collected by Buffalo Business First, a sister publication to the Houston Business Journal. That ranked Houston 11th in the nation for growth.

The Greater Houston Partnership’s February 2018 “Economy at a Glance” publication reported the nine-county Houston metro area created 46,000 jobs in 2017, significantly more than in the previous two years but less than a normal year for Houston. The economic development organization expects the Houston area to net roughly 45,500 jobs in 2018, with the health care sector creating about 8,000 jobs.

If those jobs aren’t oil and gas, I’d be extra happy.
