1. survey ques wont help you really
2. rates differ based on where you live, inside the loop will be more expensive than outside the loop
3. care.com or nanny agency; daycare- read reviews, tour them
4. depends on the child and family scenario. did nanny initially and then transitioned to daycare
5. definitely if you can afford - do nanny, child doesnt get sick often and more reliable...have coverage during holidays.
6. um...depends how much you like the kid
7. plenty of stuff worth mentioning. all depends on how much your budget is. my advise - work backwards. how much can you afford and how many hours of care you need for child. that will tell you the ans.
good luck! either way its the hardest thing abt having a kid!

1. No service - we hired a nanny through care.com. We did try a service, and one of the 3 girls we interviewed through the service came back and stole from our cars that night. All 3 were terrible candidates, and the service acted like we were unreasonable. We have cameras. When we told them we have 1 of the candidates on camera stealing from us, they said we were not a good fit for them. They did not even ask which one. They dont care. I don't recommend ANY service - all of the nanny services charge you a fortune, over $1000 to place a nanny. Their process is the same as yours, but you substitute someone elses judgment for your own. They scour care.com, and offer everyone there an interview....then they do a background check, and claim to have screened them. Its a TOTAL waste of money, and the people who use the services don't realize how much money they wasted on this con-game.

2. Pay is heavily dependent on number of kids, hours, work expectations, etc.

3. We went through 3 nannies prior to finally finding "the" one. It took a year and it was not fun. You have to find one who shares your values, and meets your expectations. Trust your gut if you don't feel right.

4. See above - trial/error. We came from daycare, but wanted a nanny.

5. Cameras. If you want a nanny, have cameras. Tell them about the cameras, and periodically watch the cameras. Any nanny who won't work for you due to the presence of cameras is someone you do not want anyways.

6. Once we found our current nanny, its been wonderful. We love her, we spoil her, we appreciate her. She is like family.

7. Anything worth mentioning? Yes - Cameras. trust but verify. These are your kids and you are entrusting them to someone else.
