If voters approve Harris County’s proposed $2.5 billion flood control bonds, the County Flood Control District will have more than 41 times its annual budget to spend on flood mitigation. That’s great news if the money is used wisely.

With early voting right around the corner — the polls open Aug. 8 for the county’s upcoming $2.5 billion bond — the Harris County Flood Control District highlighted flood control projects in the Luce Bayou watershed on Monday at the May Community Center in Huffman.

This shouldn't be a hard decision for Harris Co. voters. The $2.5B is supposed to be matched by $7.5B in Federal dollars. Thats $1 billion a year for 10 years in flood mitigation projects. Thats an astronomical jump from the $60M/yr budget the HCFCD usually has. Just hope that used wisely, because this a once in a generation chance to really do something about flooding in the area.
