Good afternoon,
I was hoping to get some unfiltered info regarding Houston suburbs.... Iím very close to a job in the Bank of America tower area downtown... flying in next week to close the deal and put boots on the ground for the first time.... been looking at Katy, Sugarland, Woodlands (to far??) and possiblly Humble... are any of the above mentioned towns doable for a 1 hour ride on the way home in Houston commute...if not... can you recommend areas where I should look. Priorities in this order
Schools system
Safety
Commute. All close in importantance. Because I already commute 4 hours a day. I need to cut this is half to uproot my family.
Or
Should I give up on the 1 hour commute. I look at google maps and it all looks bad....

Woodlands or Humble would be great if you work downtown. I say great in comparison to anything west of the metro lol. I-10 even with the expansion can be a nightmare. It's the most populated side of town and is ever growing. 59 AKA I-69 (it recently got changed to an interstate) is a pretty big highway and coming from Humble there aren't really that much businesses and commerce on that side of town or east of 59, mostly houses from the Homestead area. So traffic isn't that bad besides that is far, but most ppl in Houston drive 75 MPH lol.

Now as far as the schools, I'll let the experts get a shot at providing those numbers. There are a lot of helpful ppl on here that really seem to know how good each school district is and I'd assume they should reply to this post soon to help you out there. Hope this helps

I mean, if you commute two hours each way already, then I suppose you won't mind a Katy/Sugar Land/The Woodlands commute to/from downtown. Sugar Land will have slightly shorter commutes than the other two, but there is no park and ride bus to downtown from Sugar Land (I believe), while there is from The Woodlands.

There are several transit options from Sugarland to the medical center.

I wouldn't rule out the south side of Houston, say in the Clear Lake area or Friendswood, since you're working downtown. There's now two Park and Ride locations in the area which makes getting downtown via Metro relatively quick, certainly less than an hour. You didn't tell us your price range for housing but one nice new development is The Reserve at Clear Lake City, plus plenty of desirable houses in the same area, such as Bay Oaks, Pine Brook, etc. Friendswood has an excellent school system.

Any suggestions are pointless without a housing budget
