Houston vs. So. Fla. weather - in 2 weeks, I'll be in both (West: live)

I always get the "hot, hot, hotter" story about Houston weather. So, how bad is it compared to South Florida's? In 2 weeks, I have a job interview in South Florida. On the way back West, I am going to layover in Houston for a couple of days.

Last night, I got into a conversation with someone at Bally's while sitting in their 20-person jacuzzi. He was Spanish-speaking and lived in Houston for 3 months, Jun-Jul-Aug, and came running back West because of the heat. I told him I'd already lived in ATL and that I would have to see for myself.

Every time I've been in MIA it was Jun through Sept... you know, during my summer vacation, and it was very hot, but doable, largely via A/C. Can Houston be THAT much different?

We're slightly hotter in the summer, with slightly less rain throughout the year. So chances are the heat indexes are the same... msot seem to say there's no difference in ''feel.''

But almost every day in the summer it reaches 95 here. Regularly gets into the upper 90s here in July-August, which is considered record-breaking heat for Miami. You can always expect 100-103 for a few days in the summer but it usually doesn't get any hotter than that. When this happens you better have a good A/C because it will crank non-stop to maintain 78.

Regardless of humidity, 90, 95 and 100 definitely feel different to me.

Miami cools down at night and is balmy.

A Houston, mid-summer cool down at night is about 83, stagnant and 100% humidity. It's a much harder summer than Miami.

Miami doesn't cool down that much at night. Check the weather for Miami at 8:30 at night during the summer. The humidity is high and the temperature is usually in the low to mid 80s.

That said, Houston is muggy as all get out at night during the summer.

Good analogy. Give me dry Arizona heat any day of the week! It's easier to cool a dry heat.
