I'm looking to adopt a dog. Does anyone know a good, reputable and dependable place in Houston to do this? I checked out Houston SPCA's website, but they don't show any listings. Was hoping there was a way I can look through the different pets online to make the process quicker.

There are many, many shelters.
To see available dogs, go to petfinder.com, and enter your zip code and the type of dog you want.

There are a number of rescues around Houston, including some that are breed specific. What type of dog are you looking for? We adopted from Golden Beginnings and had a great experience.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I am looking for a small dog, possibly a chihuahua+maltese mix or pomeranian.

Get on NextDoor. If your neighborhood is anything like mine, there are 3 or 4 found dogs and rescued dogs on it daily.

Most all the rescue groups have a presence on my Next door.
